If your DM is like me, and likes to spread around the ability checks, the base human is going to be better in the long haul. WebThe issue is that the variant human can do anything well. And in many cases, they're better than every other race. Very few races can be effectively with every class, the Simic Hybrid, Half Elf, and Warforged being some notable exceptions. But none of those quite have the specialization humans offer.
