WebIPF is another lung disease that can be linked to asbestos. IPF is a lung-related condition that causes rapid and progressive fibrosis. In some cases, this fibrosis is similar to malignant pleural mesothelioma. In some cases the fibrosis may be an ordinary lung infection. IPF is a form of diffuse interstitial fibrosis. WebIPF is not a requirement to smoke to develop it. IPF is caused by the accumulation of neutrophils via the macrophage-mediated release of neutrophil specific chemotactic factors. The link between asbestos and IPF is a subject of debate. But, it is apparent that there is a dose-response relation. It isn't known what the threshold is.
